Encaustic Portraiture:

Friday, September 3rd, 6-9 pm
Saturday, September 4th
and Sunday, September 5th
10-3pm each day.

Learn how to manipulate encaustic to create likeness, structure, and light, with an emphasis on tranlsucency, color, layering, and sculpting in 2 dimensions.

$180 includes all materials: an 11x14 braced birch panel for your final portrait, several practice boards, all the paint you can fit on a brush, cold water, and ice tea. Bring your own photo references or be subject to my random assortment.
Also, feel free to bring your own lunch, wine, etc.

Encaustic Open Studio Nights:

Tuesday, September 7th 6-9:30pm & Sunday September 12th 5-8:30pm

Come and make a lovely mess at my place.

$30 per night (or qualified barter) studio fee to use my tools, brushes, space, paint, and brain. Come for help with a painting you're working on, or just to paint and be around other painting folks. No encaustic experience required, if you'd just like to play and see what it's like.

Introduction to Encaustic Painting:

Friday, September 10th 6-9pm and Saturday, September 11th 10am-5pm

Learn the basics of the materials, tools, set-up, and technique. We will cover additive and subtractive mark-making, layering, texture, opacity and translucency, and how to use these elements to create the sense of atmosphere, substance, light, and depth in a painting. Also! Learn how to do the ever popular art of photocopy transfers onto wax.

$175 includes all materials, including several panels you will take home at the end of class as stunning examples of your hard work.
